Instructions for Scoring a Standard Start Sailboat Race

Using The Klexy Soft, Rating Check and Yacht Race Programs

Load all entrants into the Yacht Race program, enter Yacht Club Name, Race Name, Date and then select Class tabs. Select type of course, enter distance, and starting time. Enter finish times by double clicking the mouse for each boat as they finish, Save a text file for possible later editing (DSQ,DNF etc.) and then save to a PDF file or HTML file for local or internet display.
  1. Double click the Yacht Race Program shortcut in the Klexy Soft > Race folder.

  2. At the top of the form enter the Yacht Club name, the Race Name and the Date of the race.

  3. Click on the Load List button at the lower left of the form.  An Open File dialog form will open.  Double click the file from step 8 above.  The complete list of all entrants of all classes will be displayed.

  4. Click on the PHRF A tab near the top (next to the PHRF List tab).

  5. Click on the Rating Type drop down list button.  Click on the race type, for example WLC, RLC, OWC etc.  enter the distance of the race to the nearest hundreth of a nautical mile. You must enter all four digits...use zeros if necessary.  Enter the start time. It is only necessary to enter numbers...the colons will be entered automatically.

  6. Click on the Load Starters button at the lower left of the form.  The A boats will be displayed.  This class is ready to record finish times by double clicking in the yellow column at the far left.  It is always good to have finish times recorded by hand as backup.

  7. Click on the PHRF B tab and repeat steps 14 and 15 for class B.

  8. Click on other PHRF tabs as needed and repeat steps 14 and 15.

  9. When all finish times have been recorded for a class, click on the Calc Corr'ed button.  The corrected finish times will be displayed.

  10. Click on the Data Grid View header, Corrected (not a button) and the corrected times will be sorted in ascending order.  The time behind the winner will be displayed in the right hand column labeled 1st+ . The order of finish will be shown in the far left column.

  11. Save the results in a text file (for possible editing later, e.g., DSQ, DNF, OCS etc.) by clicking on the Save to File button.  A Save File Dialog form will open.  Type an appropriate file name, for example 2019 Berger 1 Class A.  Save in the Berger 1 Text folder.  If it is necessary to edit later, open the program again and select the class tab of interest and click on the Load Finish button.  An Open File Dialog form will open.  Select the file to edit and click on Open  The results will be displayed as before.  You can now edit as necessary.  See special instructions for editing of DSQs, DNFs etc.

  12. Click on the Save As PDF button and again provide an appropriate filename in the Save File Dialog form.  After clicking on the Save button, a quick look at what has been saved will be displayed (The Race Program looks for the default PDF reader in you computer, opens it and displays the PDF file.)

  13. This PDF file should be printed and displayed for the racers to view. It should also be sent to the internet.

  14. You can also save as an HTML file...click on the Save As HTML button... provide an appropriate filename in the Save File Dialog form.The file will be saved in the HTML folder in the Klexy Soft folder.
